Great day for a run

I got out today and did my 'Windemere Loop' again. It turns out the loop is exactly 4k. I did it in 21:02.11 today. Roughly 5:15 a kilometer which is a nice solid pace.

Skating instead to running

It's been cold in T.O. for a little while. So running outdoors hasn't been high on my list of things to do. I've done a few sessions on the bike inside, but today was one of those cold winter days, when the sun is shinning that just screams at you to get outside.

I've mentioned Grenadier Pond before, but that was mainly an exercise to see how one posts a photo to a blog. Today I went down there because it's been frozen over for a good two weeks, and people were out skating last weekend. I took my skates and glided around the pond for a good 40 minutes.

Awesome!!!

There was a little snow last night, so there were all these little wind-swept snow drifts that you could power your way through. Powder-skating is what I call it.

Say what you will about the winter and the cold, but damn it can be fun.

Canada Running Series / Circuit du Canada - A selection of Canada's best runs

Canada Running Series / Circuit du Canada - A selection of Canada's best runs

This is a good series of runs across Canada, including the High Park 'Spring Run-Off' (run almost right outside my door) and the ZooRun (run in October throughout the Toronto Zoo). I participated in both events in 2003, but was out of town for the Run-off in 2004. The ZooRun was my last run of 2004, a 10K that I completed in 51 minutes, not my best, but I was happy with the nice consistent effort I gave.

I generally like what Peter Hadzipetros has to say about running

I'm not sure if he considers his posts a blog, but I've been following his running since he did the Olympic Marathon course in Athens back in 2003.

I guess I'm already falling behind...

I haven't been posting, but I have been running and working out.

On the 14th I ran what I call the 'Windemere Loop' in just under 21 minutes. I don't know how long the Windemere Loop is, but it's somewhere between 3.5 and 4.0 kms.

It's a good run for the winter months, because let's face it, it's cold outside and sane individuals shouldn't spend too much time outside in running tights.

I've delayed my run today, because when I got up this morning it was -23C with a windchill of -33C. It's suppose to warm up in the afternoon, so I'll head out then.

Grenadier Pond in High Park which I have the pleasure of running by, and skating on (when it's frozen) Posted by Hello

What am I doing?

I'm new to this blogging thing, and I thought the best way to learn was to just jump right in. So the main theme of this blog will be my running, but I'll probably be throwing a lot of other stuff up here just to learn what I can do.

I'll start by saying a few things about my running. I use my running as traning for the other sports I like to play, such as soccer and ultimate. However, I've recently begun to enjoy running for the solo athletic prusuit that it is. In the last year and a half, I've run four 10k with a PB of 47:30. I'm beginning to entertain the thought of trying a marathon so I'm planning on using this site as my running diary.

So here goes.

I was out this afternoon for about 30 minutes of easy running. My pace was roughly 6 minutes per km. I'll probably keep that pace for January and February, and then start speeding things up when the snow and ice melt.
